SOLidarity in climate change Adaptation policies: towards more socio-spatial justice in the face of multiple RISks
SOLARIS focuses on the climate change adaptation policies, on how they take into account the link between floods and socio-spatial inequalities. We evaluate the design of political instruments, local governance and implementation of on-going projects.
-
SOLARIS addresses adaptation to climate changethrough revealing injustice and need for solidarity.
-
Our hypothesis is that social and spatial inequalities existand threaten the implementation of climate change adaptation policies and the equitable involvement of affected citizens. It aims to assess the public participation of citizens during the design and implementation of CCAP planning instruments in the case of flood risk strategies and how these processes impact on the distribution of outcomes.

About
By studying socio-spatial inequalities associated with implementation of Climate change adaptation policies, we hope to create impact by: 1) highlighting where these inequalities are present within decision-making and policy implementation and which groups are being favoured or marginalised; 2) challenging Flood Risk Management (FRM) practitioners to recognise these inequalities within decision-making processes; 3) initiating dialogues about these issues within the local case study areas.
Project leader
I was particularly interested in this project because it allows me to contribute to the knowledge on climate change adaptation policies. It also highlights the importance of the human and social sciences in this field. By allowing me to consolidate previous partnerships, this project contributes to European research while supporting young research.

SOLSTICE
Enabling Societal Transformation in the Face of Climate Change
SOLSTICE is a joint transnational call for proposals. JPI Climate invited the SSH community to take the lead and to submit proposals that address the societal aspects of climate change. Building on an emerging trend of research, SOLSTICE offered a transnational framework with higher levels of funding than before. The rationale for this call was outlined in the JPI Climate's 2019 White Paper on societal transformation in the face of climate change.
