SOLSTICE
Enabling Societal Transformation in the Face of Climate Change
SOLSTICE is a joint transnational call for proposals. JPI Climate invited the SSH community to take the lead and to submit proposals that address the societal aspects of climate change. Building on an emerging trend of research, SOLSTICE offered a transnational framework with higher levels of funding than before. The rationale for this call was outlined in the JPI Climate's 2019 White Paper on societal transformation in the face of climate change.

About
JPI Climate launched a joint transnational call SOLSTICE Enabling Societal Transformation in the Face of Climate Change in 2019
Climate change is one of the most pressing global challenges facing society. It will increasingly impact society at all levels and across sectors. Climate change modifies the way we live, consume, and generally engage in society. JPI Climate believes insights from across the Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH) community are necessary to enable and accelerate positive transformation in the face of climate change.
That is why JPI Climate launched a joint transnational call for proposals: SOLSTICE – Enabling Societal Transformation in the Face of Climate Change
SOLSTICE is a joint transnational call for proposals. JPI Climate invited the SSH community to take the lead and to submit proposals that address the societal aspects of climate change. Building on an emerging trend of research, SOLSTICE offered a transnational framework with higher levels of funding than before. The Call was seeking interdisciplinary contributions from consortia, which consisted of scientists from at least three participating countries: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Norway and the United Kingdom.
The call addressed three themes:
- Social justice and participation
- Sense making, cultural meaning and risk perceptions
- Transformative finance and economy
SOLSTICE offered an opportunity for all SSH communities form interdisciplinary combinations and contribute to a better understanding of how climate change affects society, engage with societal actors through innovative approaches and trigger transformational change.
The selection procedure was launched in the fall of 2019 and successfully closed on 3rd of February, 2020. Our evaluation procedure concluded on the 18th of June, 2020 with a meeting by an independent panel of experts. The final decision was taken by the SOLSTICE funding organisations.
The projects are financed by the SOLSTICE funding organisations, consisting of 10 European countries (Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Italy, Ireland, Latvia, Norway and the United Kingdom) who partnered to offer this opportunity.
The call had an indicative budget of 6.900.000€ to support international research projects of a duration of up to 3 years. The overall objective of this call was to enable societal transformation in the face of climate change.
In total, 7 projects have now been selected. To find out more about SOLSTICE funded projects, please click here
