Nordland Research Institute
NRI
Arctic communities are at the heart of sustainable development of the blue economy, pastoralism, tourism, mineral and energy extraction, transport and urban planning.
Nordland Research Institute has a broad project portfolio focusing on societal transformation to low-emission society.
More than 20 researchers work across a wide range of disciplines (political science, sociology, geography, anthropology, economics, technology, ecology) to address key challenges connected to area management, adaptation to climate change, scientific controversies, ontological security, circular economy and green innovation. Empirical investigations take often place in northern communities, but with close links to global environmental problems and international research networks. The group has conducted research on several continents, particularly in Russia, Canada, Alaska, Greenland, Svalbard and northern Scandinavia.

AXIS
Assessment of Cross(X) - sectoral climate Impacts and pathways for Sustainable transformation
The ERA-NET Consortium AXIS (Assessment of Cross(X) - sectoral climate Impacts and pathways for Sustainable transformation) aims to promote cross-boundary, cross-community research with the overall goal to improve coherence, integration and robustness of climate impact research and connect it to societal needs. To this effect, AXIS aims to overcome boundaries between science communities through inter- or transdisciplinary research projects.
