Green Fund
Greece
The ‘Green Fund’ in Greece was set up under Law 3889/2010 with revenue from various sources (energy distributors, excise duty on petrol, fines for the erection and maintenance of unauthorised buildings, fines for environmental infringements, etc.). The objective of the fund is to stimulate growth through protecting the environment and providing administrative, economic, technical and financial support for programmes, measures, interventions and initiatives to improve and restore the environment and combat climate change.
From 2011, a number of legislative provisions were adopted diverting Green Fund appropriations in other directions. Under recently adopted Law 4111/2013, appropriations for Green Fund initiatives and administrative expenditure were limited to 2.5% of the total.
