Four research projects selected for funding under the CS4RRA joint call!

Launched in May last year, the Climate Services for Risk Reduction in Africa (CS4RRA) call attracted strong interest from the research and stakeholder communities, making it a successful initiative. In total, 134 pre-proposals were submitted to the call. Out of these, 91 eligible pre-proposals were reviewed in step 1, and 26 consortia were invited to submit a full-proposal. A scientific peer review process by an International Review Panel and funders meeting resulted in the selection of 4 projects for funding with a total amount of around €7Mio.

The selected consortia include a diverse range of partners located at universities, research institutes and non-profit organizations. Additionally, all call topics are addressed: 4 proposals address Topic 1 “Improving Early Warning Systems”, 2 proposals Topic 2 “Improving operational assessment and prevention of Climate Security Risks” and 2 proposals Topic 3 “Improving financing mechanism and institutional integration of climate services”.

The participating countries include Benin, Burkina Faso, France, Germany, Ghana, Liberia, Niger, Nigeria, Norway, Senegal, Sierra Leone and Togo.

The four selected projects are:

• C-SCAN «Climate–Security Early Action Network (C-SCAN): West Africa»
• CO-ACT «CO-Produced Climate Services for Anticipatory ACTion and Urban Risk Reduction in West Africa»
• DAS-CLIM «Digital Advisory Services to Strengthen Crop-Livestock Health and Climate Resilience in West Africa»
• RWAMS «Toward operational marine climate services in WA: a roadmap for early warning/forecasting systems»
