Excitement is building for ECCA2025 as we review session submissions

ECCA2025 has received a bumper response to our call for sessions – a fresh approach to attracting a diverse and engaging programme for the premier European climate adaptation conference.

Organisers JPI Climate and the MAGICA project, with the ECCA2025 programme committee, are now reviewing 250+ proposals from across Europe’s climate science, policy and practitioner landscape. Applicants can expect to hear back on their submissions in early April.

MAGICA coordinator Giulia Galluccio is Director Information Systems for Climate Science and Decision-Making Division at the Euro-Mediterranean Center on Climate Change (CMCC) and Vice Chair of JPI Climate. She welcomed the response saying: “Once again, ECCA has successfully mobilised the adaptation community, bringing together a diverse range of voices and ideas from across Europe and beyond. The quality and range of submissions are outstanding.”

Petra Manderscheid, Executive Director JPI Climate, added: “Our theme experts now have the exciting challenge of shaping a dynamic programme. We’re grateful to everyone who contributed and look forward to welcoming you in Rimini, whether or not you are presenting.”

This 7^th edition of ECCA takes place at the Palacongressi di Rimini, Italy, on June 16^th-18^th. Continuing the ECCA legacy, it is subtitled ‘Smarter, Faster and More Systemic Adaptation’.

The programme will be built around five main themes that have critical relevance to effective climate adaptation:

• Living with climate extremes
• Managing cities to be fit for the future
• Protecting coastal and mountain areas
• Human and legal dimensions of change
• Adaptation finance: reducing communities’ economic or social vulnerabilities

These have been carefully curated by the organisers, supported by a panel from across Europe, to foster face-to-face dialogue and open debate between the ECCA audiences of the scientific community, policy decision-makers and influencers, climate practitioners and science communicators.

ECCAs have been an innovative forum to accelerate climate science from academia into climate adaptation policy since its first edition in 2013.
