The Strengthening INternational Cooperation on climatE change Research (SINCERE) project Flagship action Africa under the lead of JPI Climate and funded by the European Commission under Horizon 2020 aims to exploit synergies between climate-change research agendas across Africa and the European Union. The African Academy of Sciences (AAS) represents Africa in the SINCERE consortium. The goal of the workshop is to identify major research needs serving innovative and applied climate services evolving in a research call tailored to the needs of the African regions.
The African Climate Risks Conference 2019 provides a great opportunity for the SINCERE project team to seek input to its work from African researchers and stakeholders. This interaction will build into ongoing discussions with our partners in Africa and around the world on the future of climate research in Africa and the interlinkages with global climate research. Here the focus is on opportunities and major research needs for the development of applied climate services supporting cross-sectoral innovative approaches for e.g. sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, water management, nature conservation, etc. The side event will also provide a networking opportunity for the participants and ultimately invite them to join us in advancing the overarching agenda of strengthening international collaboration on climate change research. The workshop agenda is available here.
